Kattron Lightning Data Service Kattron is proud to present the world renowned Lightning Positioning And Tracking System (LPATS) Data Service. The Service provides ACCURATE LIGHTNING DATA as detected by LPATS sensors strategically placed throughout South East Australia. This information is vital to utilities, military, aviation, TV stations, universities, as well as many safety conscious industries. The KATTRON Data Stream is readily available from Kattron via the internet, or a dedicated data link, for On Line Real Time data. The Data Contains the following information on each cloud to ground lightning stroke.
REQUIREMENTS Equipment: 1. Minimum - Pentium PC , Windows 2000/XP, Network Connection or 1 spare com port. 2. Data is available from our servers via a standard internet connection. Data is also available via a decoder for The Seven Network Datacast service. 3. Kattron Lightning Datastream Display Software. Data Stream Agreement: The Data Stream Agreement provides a licence to use KATTRON data within a business unit. Data remains the property of Kattron and may not be sold or disclosed to others. The term may be for one or alternatively five years. PERFORMANCE 1. The ultimate accuracy of LPATS is 200 metres for a network when all systematic errors have been removed or minimised. In most areas of an LPATS, strokes are displayed within 500 metres of their actual location. System performance is readily checked by using "ground truth" data and comparing with LPATS data for the same stroke. Excellent correlation has been achieved in practice. 2. As with most LPATS though the world, the KATTRON system has strategically located sensors. Only three are required for a solution. Built in redundancy ensures that the LPATS provides consistent and continuous results, even with the loss of some sensors. 3. The KATTRON lightning detection system archives stroke solutions and system status messages as recorded at the Central. Remote access is provided by a dedicated modem to enable Kattron to monitor and control the system operation and to provide a means to update software directly from the plant in USA. 4. The KATTRON lightning detection system has been in operation since 1992 and archive data is available for research and further analysis. |
