Kattron
- the
wide area lightning data system Know the level of threat to your site before storms approach and when to give the all clear by protecting your staff and facilities with KLASS
Take the guesswork out of Lightning Hazard threat with Kattron Klass. Klass operates with real time data provided by the wide area Kattron Lightning Tracker. Klass provides four levels of indication; Alert, Advanced Warning, Warning and Alarm. The parameters for each level are fully adjustable, by the user, to suit the varying site conditions. Klass will indicate when the predetermined number of lightning strokes is a selected distance from the site. Indicators may be placed in a number of locations so that people are aware of the distance to the lightning strokes. For closer obversation, the workstation displays a graphic of strokes on a map, so that the user may determine the location and area of the storm cell, whether it is moving towards the site or away. At any level of indication Klass may be programmed to operate proactive responses. Remote indicator lights, warning bells or hooters may be sounded. A supervisor may be sent a paging message, a standby generator may be started ahead of an iminent power loss, high security processes may be transferred to alternate power. Electronic equipment may be switched off power & telecommunication circuits to prevent surge voltage damage. Where additional site specific lightning activity is required Klass may be used in conjunction with local single point sensors. Kattron also provide Electric Field Mills, optical & electric field sensors. These devices have an operating range of 10 to 25 kms. APPLICATIONS FOR KLASS
Kattron is the Australian pioneer of lightning stroke data and was established in 1990. The Kattron Lightning Tracker was upgraded in July 1995 to the latest technology equipment. High accuracy lightning stroke data is available in South East Australia in real time. The data is broadcast on The Seven Network Datacast system and is available Australia wide. Lightning sensors are not recommended for use as a life safety device.
