Where did...
Lightning does strike more than once ...... Kattron Lightning Data Service provides reports to assist your planning, operations, safety and risk analysis functions. This analysis shows the stroke count, over a time period, recorded in a square grid of 150 km to 1500 km, with a cell size of 1 to 10 kms. Data is presented as an ASCII comma delimited file with details of positive, negative and cloud stroke counts in each cell. Stroke amplitude varies from 3kA to 200 kA, occasionally higher. Analysis may be provided for a specific time period in a given area. Amplitude analysis is also a measure of detection efficency for an area. Within the high accuracy area of the system the full range of amplitudes is usually detected. At increasing distance from the sensors, the minimum amplitude listed is an indication of the detection efficiency. A lightning flash is formed from a number of strokes (or strikes). This is observed by the flicker of a flash as seen by an observer. The Kattron LPATS is able to record every stroke in a flash, within the prime area, and part of a flash at long distances. The analysis shows the multiplicity of strokes within defined parameters of time window spacing. |
